Rory’s new adventure into motherhood certainly hadn’t dampened her party skills at all, and by the time we made it to the Pride festival, I was sufficiently drunk.

“Whoa. Thisss isss sso much cooler than Philly Pride.” The way Grace slurred her words told me she was just as drunk as me.

I laughed and wrapped an arm around her waist as we stumbled into the festival together. As I took in my surroundings, I realized Grace was right. LA Pride was no joke. There were multiple stages with people performing and way more booths to explore than in Philadelphia. I dragged Grace over to a stand where they were selling alcoholic slushies and ordered us each one even though we clearly didn’t need them.

We then joined the rest of the group in a grassy area where someone who I didn’t recognize was performing. Todd grabbed Ryan’s hand at the same time Rory grabbed Jenny’s and the couples began to dance together, all four of them laughing hysterically as they stumbled around tripping over each other’s feet.

I smiled over at Grace who smiled back at me as she slowly sipped from her drink. I wanted to grab her hand and dance with her, but something was holding me back. Something didn’t feel right. Things were great right now. We had an awesome day. So, how had I gotten to the point where I wasn’t one hundred percent comfortable with my wife? Why?

I looked away as tears started to sting at my eyes. God, Kinsley, get a hold of yourself. This is ridiculous. I stared into the cup I was holding in front of me. Stupid alcohol.

I was shocked back to reality by the feeling of a hand on my arm. I felt goosebumps rise on my skin as Grace leaned in close to whisper in my ear. “Can I have this dance?”

A smile sprang back to my face as she grabbed my hand and twirled me around, and I laughed as she pulled me closer to her. Looking into her eyes as we danced closely made me forget all of my worries from just a second before. Things might not be perfect for us, but I was going to cherish perfect moments like this.

Our moment was broken up by the feeling of my phone vibrating in my pocket. I pushed the ignore button and continued to dance with Grace. When my phone immediately started to ring again, I pulled it out of my pocket and immediately picked up without even looking to see who was calling, worried it might be an emergency.

“He-hello?”

“Guess what? I’m a dad!”
